A Shift Schedule doesn’t duplicate a shift’s own times or staffing — it just references your existing Shift Requirements. If you edit a Shift Requirement later, every Shift Schedule that uses it picks up the change automatically.
Shift Requirements vs. Shift Schedules
Shift Requirements
A single shift definition — name, start/end time, staffing, and recovery rules. The building block.
Shift Schedules
A weekly pattern of Shift Requirements — the same set every day, or a different lineup per weekday. What you pick when building a roster or Auto Duty.
Open Shift Schedules
Select Shift Schedules in the sidebar to see every saved schedule for your organisation.Create a Shift Schedule
1
Start a new schedule
Select Create New (or open an existing one and Edit).
2
Fill in the basics
Enter a Name (for example, MICU Day + Night) and an optional Description. Choose a Location (required) and, optionally, a Department.
3
Choose the pattern shape
Under Schedule Pattern, choose whether these shifts repeat every day or vary by weekday:
- All Days — one list of shifts that applies to every day of the week.
- Weekdays — a separate list of shifts for each day, so weekends or specific weekdays can differ from the rest.
4
Add shifts
Select Add Shift on the All Days card, or on each individual day card if you chose Weekdays. Pick from your existing Shift Requirements.
5
Copy a day's shifts (optional)
On the Weekdays layout, once a day has shifts, use Copy to All Days or Copy to Weekdays to apply the same lineup elsewhere instead of re-adding shifts one by one.
6
Save
Save the schedule. It’s immediately available in the roster wizard and the Auto Duty wizard’s Shifts step.
Active vs. inactive
Every Shift Schedule is Active by default. Deactivating one stops it from being offered for new rosters and new Auto Duty setups — it doesn’t touch anything already built with it. To deactivate, open the schedule and toggle it off. You’ll be asked to confirm:An inactive Shift Schedule still appears in the Shift Schedules list for editing or reactivating — it’s only hidden from the picker inside the roster and Auto Duty wizards.
Where it’s used
- The roster creation wizard’s Shift configuration step can select a saved Shift Schedule instead of building the pattern from scratch each time.
- The Auto Duty wizard’s Shifts step requires picking one — it’s what every planning cycle generates against.
