When a roster shows a Failed status, you don’t need to reopen the wizard and rebuild it. The failed roster’s own page offers a faster path: relax the constraints most likely to be the problem, optionally add doctors, and regenerate in place.
This works from any Failed roster page — it isn’t specific to Auto Duty. For Auto Duty cycles, the same idea appears as Retry Generation on a failed planning cycle.

Open the retry panel

On a Failed roster, you’ll see a Retry with relaxed constraints panel: some staffing constraints may be too restrictive to generate a roster. From here you can either:
  • Select Retry generation to open the relaxed-constraints modal (below), or
  • Select Create new plan to abandon this roster and start fresh in the wizard instead.

Adjust and retry

The Retry with relaxed constraints modal lets you adjust a few constraints to give the scheduler more flexibility — your existing roster inputs stay unchanged unless you update them here.
1

Raise max consecutive working days (optional)

The field starts one day above the roster’s original setting. A +N badge shows how much more room you’re giving the engine versus the original roster.
2

Lower min rest days per week (optional)

Starts at the roster’s original value — reduce it if that’s the likely blocker.
3

Add doctors (optional)

Expand Doctors in this roster to see everyone currently included, or select Add doctors to bring in more without leaving the modal.
4

Retry

Select Retry roster creation. The roster regenerates against the same period with your adjusted inputs.
Start small. A one-day increase to max consecutive work days is often enough to clear a near-miss — you can always retry again with a larger adjustment if it still fails.

What happens next

The roster moves back into Creating while the engine re-solves, then lands on Draft (ready to review and publish) or Failed again if the same or a different constraint still can’t be satisfied. See Roster constraints for the full list of hard and soft rules the engine applies.
