# Duty Calendar: everyone's duties in one view

> See every doctor's published duties for the month in a single calendar, filter by department, pod, and location, and drill into a day when shifts overlap.

The **Duty Calendar** shows what's actually been published — across every roster, department, and location — in one month view. It's the duty-side counterpart to the [Leave Calendar](/docs/leave/calendar.md).

> [!NOTE]
>
> Only **published** rosters appear here. Draft and failed rosters aren't shown.

## Open the calendar

Select **Duty Calendar** in the sidebar.

* **Doctors** see only their own duties, with **Department** and **Location** filters.
* **Admins** see the whole organisation by default, with an additional **Doctor** filter and a view toggle.

## Calendar view vs. Shift × Day Grid

Admins can switch between two layouts using the toggle in the top right:

| View | Best for |
| - | - |
| **Month Calendar** | A traditional month grid — one cell per day, entries stacked by doctor. Used automatically once you filter to a single department or a single doctor. |
| **Shift × Day Grid** | A coverage-focused grid grouped by shift and day. Appears automatically once you clear both the department and doctor filters — that is, once you're looking at the whole organisation. |

You can also switch manually at any time; PlanMyRounds just picks a sensible default for you based on your filters.

## Filters

| Filter | What it does |
| - | - |
| **All Depts** | Narrow to one department. |
| **All Locations** | Narrow to one site. |
| **Doctor** (admins only) | Focus on a single doctor's duties across every roster they're on. |

## Drilling into a day

Select any day to open its agenda — a proportional timeline of every doctor's duties that day. If two or more duties overlap in time, they're flagged with an **Overlaps N other entries at this time** note, so you can spot a scheduling clash at a glance without cross-checking rosters manually.
